Tom Hanks Reprises David S. Pumpkins in Saturday Night Live Halloween Cold Open
Tom Hanks returned to Studio 8H on October 31, 2026, reprising his Halloween character David S. Pumpkins during the Saturday Night Live Season 52 Halloween cold open on NBC and Peacock, ten years after the character first debuted in October 2016.
According to TheWrap, the sketch opened inside a haunted attraction called the Tombs of Doom, where featured players Grace Reiter and Jeremy Culhane encountered Jane Wickline as Lizzie Borden and Sarah Sherman as her beheaded victim. Hanks then popped out in his orange-and-black pumpkin suit flanked by dancing skeletons played by Mikey Day and returning Saturday Night Live alum Bobby Moynihan.
Before Hanks could complete the routine, James Austin Johnson entered in character as Donald Trump to freeze the sketch ahead of the November midterm elections. 'We both appeared in 2016. We're both very loud, very orange and very, frankly, annoying,' Johnson's character told viewers. The October 31 broadcast was hosted by Obsession actress Inde Navarrette with musical guest Gracie Abrams, and also featured Moynihan returning to Weekend Update as Drunk Uncle.
