Sesame Street Muppets Join Saturday Night Live Cast in Writers' Room Sketch
Saturday Night Live released a digital crossover sketch on October 26, 2026, bringing Sesame Street characters Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch into Studio 8H for a pitch meeting with cast members Kenan Thompson, Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, and Ashley Padilla.
According to Consequence and LateNighter, the writers' room collaboration revisits classic Saturday Night Live characters and recurring bits including Debbie Downer, Wayne's World, and Domingo. During the pitch session, Cookie Monster recreates Chris Farley's motivational speaker character Matt Foley, while Elmo performs an impression of executive producer Lorne Michaels and pitches a sketch titled 'Elmingo.' Companion clips from the crossover also paired the Muppets with Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che for a 'Weekday Update' segment featuring Colin Toast and Michael ChELMO.
Consequence noted that the two programs share roots dating back to Saturday Night Live's inaugural 1975–1976 season, when Jim Henson produced adult-oriented Muppet segments for Studio 8H after helping launch Sesame Street.
