Saturday Night Live Honors Late Host Patrick Stewart With 1994 Salt-N-Pepa Clip
Saturday Night Live closed its October 31, 2026 Halloween broadcast with an on-air tribute to actor Patrick Stewart, who died on October 28, 2026 at age 86 at his Los Angeles home, replaying his famous February 5, 1994 introduction of musical guest Salt-N-Pepa ahead of an In Memoriam bumper card.
According to LateNighter, Stewart hosted Saturday Night Live once during Season 19, months before the series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation. During that episode, he starred as the proprietor of an erotic bakery in the 'Sexy Cakes' sketch and played Scottish therapist Phil McCracken opposite Mike Myers in 'All Things Scottish.' Although Stewart wrote in his 2023 memoir Making It So that he found the live sketch environment stressful, he embraced Myers' catchphrase and his unexpected place in Saturday Night Live lore.
Decades after the 1994 broadcast, former Saturday Night Live writer John Mulaney turned Stewart's booming 'Ladies and gentlemen, Salt-N-Pepa!' delivery into a signature stand-up bit in his Kid Gorgeous at Radio City special and his 2018 hosting monologue, prompting Stewart to recreate the introduction in a Salt-N-Pepa shirt for SNL50 in February 2025.
